Knotted kelp is able to accumulate trace elements in its cells and is therefore very rich in iron and iodine, and supplies the body with the B vitamins that are important for its functions. The seaweed also contains a large amount of alginates. Alginates are able to bind toxic heavy metals - especially mercury and cadmium - in the intestinal contents and thus support their excretion.
