What you can do for your cat and dog on New Year's Eve

«One man's joy is another man's sorrow.» Fireworks are still allowed on New Year's Eve and on national holidays. What is fun for many people is sheer horror for some animals. As long as fireworks are (still) allowed, we are called upon to make these evenings as «stress-free» as possible for the anxious cats and dogs among us.

Unfortunately, we don't have the ultimate solution. However, we can give you a few tips on what you can do on these days - or even beforehand.

Prevention with music

Already offer your protégé a few weeks before a «safe space» before the big bang starts. You can create this by working with music in relaxed and peaceful situations. You can use the RelaxoPet PRO that is intended for your furry friend's ears (options: with sound / without sound that is only audible to your furry friend), or you can search for pleasant relaxation music from your favorite streaming provider.

In other words, whenever your dog or cat is relaxed and you are in a cozy mood, play the same music. This allows your pet to associate the music with a relaxed moment. Do this again and again shortly before the firework days take place. And as soon as the time comes, play the same music as the weeks before.

The dog hotel at the airport

We know from friends that they take their senior to the Radisson Blu airport hotel for a night on New Year's Eve. They say you don't hear anything about the fireworks there and their dog is very relaxed.

Other dog owners do the same.

Create different places of retreat

Prepare your pet a few days in advance quiet, safe place in. For example, under the bed, in the bathroom or in a cozy box. Important: as far away from your windows as possible. Darken the room and turn on quiet music or the TV - even background noise helps to dampen the bangs.

Train sounds at an early stage

Gently prepare sensitive animals for loud noises at an early stage: With special Fireworks or thunderstorm soundtracks (e.g. on YouTube or Spotify), you can slowly and positively associate the noise. Important: Start very quietly and never overload.

Provide distraction

A filled Intelligence toys, a tasty chew or a new toy can work wonders. The main thing is that your pet is busy and associates the situation with something nice.

Stay calm and composed

Animals sense our mood immediately. If you become hectic or constantly comfort them, this can increase their anxiety. So: talk calmly, behave normally, maybe just stay on the sofa together. ?
